The more I read about Oregon, the more I’m inclined to move there. They do not have retarded regressive taxes as bad as WA. Their roads are better. The landscape of the state is less frustrating. And... Well. I dunno. What do you think?

And that’s coming from someone who lives in the south. We have our crazy rednecks but apparently they are a different species . The Western Redneckess Crazyplaticus.

Lower speed limits, choice between H ipsterville, Californicator infestation, or Deliverance.
I also saw that report on KOMO, I believe the WA is bad part, but in my experience, haven’t seen OR being any better than in sometimes less traffic density.

They just removed that law in Oregon last year . Jersey is the last hold out.

I live in PA but near the border with NJ. I've been pumping my own gas since I got a learner's permit, so it's always weird to make a short drive, cross the Delaware river, and suddenly I'm not qualified to pump my own gas anymore.

The roads are not better, the speed limits are lower, the left lane camping is somehow even worse, there are less jobs and with a few exceptions the small cities are meth-ier, and you’ll see even more extremely out-of-place confederate battle flags than in central Washington. Other than that, lovely state with a lot going for it.
ETA: I cannot repeat enough how frustrating driving in Oregon is, and I do it a lot.

In all honesty, your level of enjoyment will be based on how much melanin you posess.
I lived in Oregon for all of 7 months, a hispanic man, with an irish fiance. Racism is alive and well up there. Nevermind the psycho white dude slaying multiple muslims at the train station in portland, but its history of racism that is steeped in tradition.

Yeah, but Oregon has way more. T here’s literally nowhere they aren’t except about ten square miles of central Portland and the part of Bend that consists largely of Silicon Valley people working remotely.

They didn’t, they just allow you to in certain counties after hours when it’s unrealistic to have an attendant staff the station. The rest of the time and state, you’re still not allowed.

As a former 8-9 year Oregon resident; the driving is fantastic. I lived in Eugene, which is not probably for everyone, but I miss it. I could roll out of my driveway and be on fantastic backroads in 5-10 minutes.
Also, the traffic patrol in rural parts of the county was non-existent so I never worried about tickets.

I’ve heard from a family friend that due to the (lack of) taxes, the school systems are AWFUL. If you don’t have kids that might not be as big a deal, but you’re still surrounded by people who went to bad schools.

It was in effect for the beginning of 2018 but I have just found out it apparently only counts in rural counties during off hours when it’s hard to staff.

lol, the amount of discussions I had with people when I’d tell them they can’t pump the gas. Can you imagine some 12 or 13 year old kid saying - it’s a law you can’t pump it, then stepping in to do it themselves? Was pretty funny. Had a couple arguments once I got older with guys from out of state demanding to put gas in their car. I’m not getting fined because you’re a jackass and don’t like the rules. In fairness by the time I was 13 I could manage 4 pumps cash and credit transactions all faster then I see people manage 1 self serve pump.
When I moved to Michigan I couldn’t believe how slowly the pumps move . I’m still annoyed by it. There’s a momentary pause between selecting the fuel grade I want and being able to pump. In NJ on our pumps it was instant, probably set up faster so I could move along to the next pump faster. But, that gets me everywhere now, I ’ve traveled quite a bit around the US and it always happens.
I feel like the big issue in NJ is that no one wants to be the one governor or politician that snaps their fingers and makes jobs disappear.

You were probably better than a lot of attendants. My sister used to live in Bradley Beach and we would have to stop at the service station on the Garden State Parkway. Plenty of pumps, not enough attendants. It would be done pumping and then you'd just sit and wait.

I’m a seattle person who spent 4 years living in Portland (college. )
Oregon is better. Don’t get me wrong, i love Seattle , but its not as good.
This is based heavily on my personality type which is introverted and generally prefers small cities to big ones. Portland has everything you’d need from a big city without stepping at all beyond that. Also cool being able to find fantastic driving roads within a 45 minute drive, rather than the whole day “I’m going for a drive for the next 8 hours” required in Seattle.

The rest of the state must be pulling up the average for congestion-related numbers, because most of the highways in the Portland metro area are heavily congested during peak hours. And most people drive between 0 and 5 miles less than the limit the rest of the time, often in the left lane.
I don’t car commute (I have a 10 minute bike ride instead), so I love how small Portland is, but it’s definitely having some growing pains right now.

It’s a beautiful place with a tenacious one-party rule that’s starting to realize they can do whatever the hell they feel like and still get reelected no matter how bad they stick it to the middle class. The schools suck, and everyone drives 10 below the already hilariously low speed limits unless it’s raining (which it always is) and they just throw it in park. Downtown Portland is great if you can avoid the violent protests and roving hoards of homeless.
I moved here to raise a family because all of my wife’s family is here. I plan to attend my youngest child’s high school graduation with a loaded uhaul idling in the parking lot.

I’ve done both. Oregon is worse. You’ re l ess likely to get shot probably, but much more likely to have an aneurysm while stuck behind someone going 10 under in the left lane while they “overtake” someone going 12 under in the right. Equally likely to be impaled by stolen scrap metal flying out of a methhead’s truck bed.
